More about At Botha

At Botha was born on 23 December 1949 in Kroonstad.
He spent most of his childhood in the Orange Free State region where his father was a teacher at different schools. He matriculated at Menlo Park High school in Pretoria, after which he studied Drama at Potchefstroom. At Botha is well known for numerous projects in the performing arts, but he loved painting since he was a child. He works in various mediums and paints landscapes, harvester scenes of the Cape, District six scenes, seascapes and clowns. His landscapes are especially inspired by the Eastern Free State. His work also reflects his great love for the people and various regions of the Cape. At Botha’s personality is showcased in his work, vibrant, rich, colors.
Paintings created by At Botha in oil mediums are very rare and a sought after collection by various art lovers and investors alike. Although painting mostly in acrylic medium currently, he is working on an exclusive oil painting series that will be available at the end of 2011.
Paintings created by At Botha in oil mediums are very rare and a sought after collection by various art lovers and investors alike. Although painting in acrylic medium currently, At is used to working in various mediums and paints landscapes, harvester scenes of the Cape, District six scenes and seascapes from Paternoster– thus explaining his great love for the people and various regions of the Cape. The use of vibrant color and the impression of freedom that is reflected in his work is evident of At Botha’s care free –personality.
His long and impressive career has established him firmly as a respected icon of (mostly) Afrikaans-medium stage and TV. Interestingly over the past few years he has concentrated more on developing his painting and now tends to consider himself a painter who also acts, rather than an actor who also paints.
He is truly one of the very few artists that enjoys interacting and connecting with people by personally attending public exhibits where he loves to stand and paint his favourite subjects.
At has moved to Paternoster permanently at the end of June 2011 where he is painting from his spacious studio overlooking the sea.

“My inspiration to paint is mostly derived from images from my childhood. Clouds and mountains fascinate me.”
